The three card spread is useful in limited terms, but paticularly as part of an ongoing reading, where there is a question within a question.
The five of rods represents minor and temporary obstacles, or possibly hidden enemies or rivals.
To pull the king of rods twice in one three card reading and suggests that there is a need to get the point across clearly, because someone isn`t getting the picture clearly enough.
This is true of the repitition of any card, but to repeat such a strong card, though of the minor arcana, neccesitates a closer look at the issue or people at hand.

weel, you aren`t just a pretty face, my caped friend.

thanks for the analysis.

the reading was done on the spur of the moment with an opened tarot deck at chapters yesterday, initiated by me with my new friend who has no last name.....

the first card was the five of rods, which i thought was the three initally because the picture showed three rods crossed, but the card said five........

the next two were both king of rods. first picked by me and then shuffled by her. then she drew the same card.

remarkable.

She doesn`t get it brother. She`s caught up in something you`ve created and so doesn`t see what`s right in front of her.
The danger here is her becoming "friends" with you over time. You will need to reminder her of your intentions soon.
