Your title does not reveal what you think. Can you be explicit (to give me something to argue about?)

a conservative swing. it is beginning in germany and will spread.

You may choose to use the word "conservative" but it has local meanings. The "far right" has nothing to do with conservatism in the language we speak on these islands.

Just as certain words in America, words of racial description, which are so taboo there, never carried the same baggage here because of history.

Here I vote for the Conservative Party. That some people have given their vote to an insane fascist racist party, the successor to the blackshirts of Sir Oswald Mosley, doesn't indicate any political trend, but a working-class revolt against the useless stalinism of New Labour.

After 12 years of Blair and Brown, the British people are going to vote for Conservative Cameron at the next election.

But this has nothing to do with fascist lunacy.

Things don't begin in Germany and spread, certainly not to us.

Yes, I too feel that Europe will shift to the right due to numerous things. I have had that on my radar for some time. I see it hitting strongly in the UK.

well, to characterise a backlash against liberal immigration policies as fascist lunacy is a part of the liberal apologetics i mentioned earlier.

people are feeling powerless over mullas holding open air prayer sessions down the old kent road in the middle of the day and openly agressive immigrant groups pushing for more and more "rights" (money and power) while the economy goes to shit.

commentators like pat condell are speaking for a quiet majority of british people who want an anglo-saxon existance....though that is pretty niave and this is aprt of what is driving a conservative shift.

ricardo, we are seeing an early suggestion that we are swinging the pendulum back toward some sort of middle conservative position whereby family values and work ethic will be important, and self-indulgent pruriency will fade.
this has a lot to do with aging gen-xers and those who were weaned on curt cobain. these people are striving to keep mortgages and jobs and raise kids now and less interested on porn on prime time tv.

There's a mosque on my street and plenty of open-air prayer sessions, and Muslims streaming in from all directions regularly several times a day. There isn't the slightest problem. It's true that the town where I live is no. 3 on Britain's list of terrorist-harbouring towns, but so what? There might be 2 would-be terrorists here, or they might have flown long ago.

Where I live, conservative does not mean paranoid, racist, agitationist, xenophobe etc.

But then Conservative here probably means liberal over in US.

I never heard of Pat Condell. Your suggestion of "a quiet majority of british people who want an anglo-saxon existence" is several decades out of date, in my view. I'm happy I don't have them for neighbours anyway. Anglo-Saxon existence, my batty.

vincent. here is a video of pat condells. he is commenting on all abrahamic religions, but he warns of a muslim threat in europe and beyond.

britain is a particular target because of immigration policies and population density.

paranoid? no.

if you sit in a pot of water while it slowly comes to a boil, for the most part you barely know it`s even getting warm. but if you were asked to jump in when it hits 90 degrees, you`d fight with your life.

i was born in england, and moved here in 1970. the next year in my home town of reading there was a race riot that burned the new shopping center down.

it hasn`t got better since.

what is the water temperature in the pot you sit in?

Daniel Defoe (1703) on the racial purity of the true-born Englishman:

Thus from a mixture of all kinds began,
That het’rogeneous thing, an Englishman:
In eager rapes, and furious lust begot,
Betwixt a painted Britain and a Scot.
Whose gend’ring off-spring quickly learn’d to bow,
And yoke their heifers to the Roman plough:
From whence a mongrel half-bred race there came,
With neither name, nor nation, speech nor fame.
In whose hot veins new mixtures quickly ran,
Infus’d betwixt a Saxon and a Dane.
While their rank daughters, to their parents just,
Receiv’d all nations with promiscuous lust.
This nauseous brood directly did contain
The well-extracted blood of Englishmen.

Which medly canton’d in a heptarchy,
A rhapsody of nations to supply,
Among themselves maintain’d eternal wars,
And still the ladies lov’d the conquerors.

The western Angles all the rest subdu’d;
A bloody nation, barbarous and rude:
Who by the tenure of the sword possest
One part of Britain, and subdu’d the rest
And as great things denominate the small,
The conqu’ring part gave title to the whole.
The Scot, Pict, Britain, Roman, Dane, submit,
And with the English-Saxon all unite:
And these the mixture have so close pursu’d,
The very name and memory’s subdu’d:
No Roman now, no Britain does remain;
Wales strove to separate, but strove in vain:
The silent nations undistinguish’d fall,
And Englishman’s the common name for all.
Fate jumbled them together, God knows how;
What e’er they were they’re true-born English now.

The wonder which remains is at our pride,
To value that which all wise men deride.
For Englishmen to boast of generation,
Cancels their knowledge, and lampoons the nation.
A true-born Englishman’s a contradiction,
In speech an irony, in fact a fiction.
A banter made to be a test of fools,
Which those that use it justly ridicules.
A metaphor invented to express
A man a-kin to all the universe.

For as the Scots, as learned men ha’ said,
Throughout the world their wand’ring seed ha’ spread;
So open-handed England, ’tis believ’d,
Has all the gleanings of the world receiv’d.

Some think of England ’twas our Saviour meant,
The Gospel should to all the world be sent:
Since, when the blessed sound did hither reach,
They to all nations might be said to preach.

’Tis well that virtue gives nobility,
How shall we else the want of birth and blood supply?
Since scarce one family is left alive,

Which does not from some foreigner derive.

when one is proud of being english as opposed to being of some race or persuasion living in a foriegn land...then the isn`t a problem.

multiculturalism is designed to be chaotic and divisive.

Vincent said...

I don't understand multiculturalism. I mean I don't understand what English culture is in the first place, apart from speaking English and basic stuff like that.

And having freedom of speech - well perhaps not that.

dr.alistair said...

apart from speaking english and stuff like that.

ok, so make a list of the stuff like that that you have some expectation of continuing to enjoy...and imagine a large noisy group of people bent on eroding your enjoyment of these things.

you can be coy and suggest that you don`t feel that those things are under threat, but they are.

the muslimifaction of towns and villages near you have caused pubs and bars to close down in large numbers, because quite simply, it`s against sharia law for these people to drink.

sharia existed in canada protected by multicultural law until there was a rash of abductions. substantial numbers of young muslim women were being taken from thier homes and put on planes back to thier original countries to stand before sharia tribunals for crimes such as not wearing a burka, or dating non-muslim men...etc.

all punishable by death by stoning.

it came as a huge suprise to the canadian politicians that this was happening and they outlawed sharia quite quickly.

the abductions continue though.

it was argued that sharia was a traditional tribal council used mostly for the day-to-day affairs of the community dealing with things such as dowrys and births etc., and moderated tried to deny the death sentences handed down actually happened.

rearding multiculturalism, it is a political position a country takes regarding immigration. in the u.s. they have a system whereby the community is a melting-pot of different peoples all becoming american.

in canada we have people living in strongholds of ethnicity with no intention of being anything other than identifying with the culture of thier birth.
there are whole towns here where there are no english streetsigns whatsoever and when you visit you are looked at as a stranger.

unionville is a good example of a town usurped by a foriegn culture. in this example it is chinese.

as populations increase here we will see more of this emerging, with taxpayers footing the bill and soial engineers nodding and smiling.

Where did you get this? Pubs close down because of drink drive laws and because good beer is sold in so many shops much cheaper than in pubs. I live almost next to the mosque, and almost every little shop sells beer wines and spirits.

As for sharia law, there is no sharia police to stop any muslim visiting a pub and I know some who do. It is a cultural difference that the Pakistanis don't drink alcohol and there may be some religious feeling or peer pressure, but it's mainly a cultural thing.

Sharia courts here, so far as I'm aware are a kind of mediation service with no legal powers at all, which people might use for marriage guidance, sorting out property issues and so on. They have never been legalised in the way you describe in Canada.

I like the fact that my muslim neighbours aren't drunk and disorderly on a Friday night.

We have lots of Africans and West Indians too, or descendants of West Indians. My wife is Jamaican. I am very glad of these in the community. they add a lot. As for the muslims, the mosque-going ones, they are not exactly fun-loving & don't give anything noticeable to the community apart from being law-abiding. their children used to be more respectful and disciplined than the local white children, but - because they are educated in the same schools, they tend to emulate the white kids, but still their swearing, rudeness and bad behaviour is less than the white kids. As for the blacks, I love 'em, in general terms, and they, as everyone but the most elderly and bigoted will admit, have added immeasurably to the culture, whilst being responsible doubtless for a disproportionate amount of the crime.

I love this country but have no greater respect for the whites. To be honest, I have rather less respect for the whites, though I am one.

I am however proud to be English, and I think most of the immigrants, recent or long-established, of whatever colour, are too.

dr.alistair said...

sharia was never recognised legally in canada. it was culturally permitted as part of thier community...until the more sinister aspects emerged due to a couple of sensational court cases involving abducted women taken back to wherever and stoned to death.

in one instance a woman stoned survived and managed to return to canada and bring charges here.

in canada sharia is part of outlawed behaviours and activities that come under the auspices of terrorist activity.

fund-raising, training, hate speech, etc.
